The love of food and great produce is the journey
When I travel I always try street food to discover the unique, local flavours. There’s nothing that makes me happier than finding a hole in the wall where only locals go. The food is essentially the journey, it colours my memories with flavour. Regardless if it is the grilled pineapple from a market in Japan, the fresh fish fried up on a beach in Spain, the potato balls in Germany or the dark rye sour dough bread in my Finnish grandmother’s kitchen. These dishes are all with me to this day. I can almost taste them when I think about them.
Discovering flavours and textures, scents and aromas, techniques and sounds. Acidity, saltiness, sweetness and bitter flavours combined with fats and the heat from the stove or the oven creates an experience – not just to fill your stomach but also to soothe our soul. Food is so much more than just eating. It can be love in a bowl, culture on a plate or friendship over a cup. It can be reassurance, comfort or rest. It creates memories and experiences.
What we eat tells stories about who we are
We gather around the table, just like the humans before us who used to gather around the fire. Food is love, culture and nutrition. What we eat matters. The memories tied to a certain dish or flavour is strong because they are attached to emotion. Food is an essential part of becoming an adult. What we eat when we grow up affects how and what we eat as adults. Our food culture tells stories about who we are and are a heritage for future generations.
For the love of great produce
I had to create Saucilicious as a celebration of the flavours that I remember and embrace. I want to share my stories with you. Saucilicious is also a celebration of the British produce: the meats, fish and poultry, the sea salt, the herbs, the eggs and the fresh vegetables. This country has so much goodness to offer, so many farmers who are tirelessly working to give us their best produce. Saucilicious aims to that spoonful of goodness that goes with it. Besides great flavour,, organic ingredients and some new food stories of your own, you wont find anything in the sauces that you can’t find in your own kitchen.
Enjoy!
Kim
